The Tormek Blackstone Silicon wheel has been designed for shaping and sharpening* HSS and exotic alloyed steels, as well as touching up tungsten carbide. However its ability to work on ordinary carbon steel is limited.
The Blackstone wheel can be graded in the same way as the Standard wheel, from 220 grit to 1000 grit. The Blackstone features sharp, yet relatively small grain, so removes hard steel efficiently even at the low speed that the Tormek is known for. This faster removal of steel is especially good for tools with larger bevel surfaces, such as planer blades and wood turning skews.
Blackstone Silicon also offers exceptional wear resistance, and is capable of touching up tungsten carbide, where the tool already has an established shape.
For T8,T7 and and earlier models with a 250mm diameter.
Note: *There is a significant difference between shaping and sharpening. Shaping is the removal of material until the desired profile or shape is achieved. Sharpening is simply touching the edge up to renew the edge.
