Japanese chisels are laminated with hardened steel at the face edge, and softer metal at the back to absorb shock and support the harder face.  The chisels are hollow ground on their back to reduce the surface area to be flattened. For a truely sharp edge it is essential that the back is perfectly flat.

The overall length is approximately 230mm(9").

These Fujikawa 'Oukyo' Atsu-Nomi Chisels feature a cutting edge of hard 'Yellow' high carbon steel, laminated into a softer steel main body, Red Oak handle and steel hoop.

Now, the 2nd, and 3th generation (Ricardo Fujikawa) are working together.
